RAÍZES DO BRASIL CAPOEIRA - NEW YORK ------------------------------------- Below are some of the most commum capoeira terminology used in our group: THE MOST BASIC MOVEMENT: "Ginga" ROUND KICKS: Meia-lua de frente (outside-inside crescent kick) Meia-lua de compasso (spinning heel kick with one hand on the ground) Rabo-de-arraia (spinning heel kick with both hands on the ground) Armada (spinning crescent kick) Armada-martelo (armada going to a spinning martelo in the air) Queixada (inside-outside crescent kick) etc... FRONT KICKS: Benção (front heel kick) Ponteira (front snap kick with the ball of the foot) Joelhada (knee strike) Pisão (side kick) Pisão rodado (crossing/spinning side kick) Martelo (roundhouse kick) Gancho (reverse hook kick) etc... STANDARD GROUND MOVEMENTS: Negativa (ground position in which one sits on one heel and strech the other leg) Roleio (moving from negativa to usually base position) Desce e troca (switching from base position to negativa position using the hands) Martelo-de-chão (ground martelo usualy from negativa) Chapa (heel kick from negativa) Chapeu-de-couro (kick from negativa almost like a martelo-de-chão but faking like a s-dobrado) etc... FLOREIOS: Parafuso/pião-de-mão (hand spin) Pião-de-cabeça (head spin) Leque/beija-flor (half-cartwheel into the one handed-handstand) Queda-de-rins (relaying your entire body on one arm around the kidney, close to the ground) Macaco (close to the ground back handspring) Palhaço (back handspring) Mortal (back flip) Mortal de frente (front flip) Au sem mão (cartwheel without hands) Pé na lua (type of front flip) S-dobrado (going from negativa to cartwhee ) Relógio(spinnig on queda-de-rins like an o'clock) etc... SWEEPS ,TAKEDOWNS & OTHER GROUND TECHNICS: Rasteira (sweep) Banda (low, tripping, hooking kick to the ankles..similar to rasteira) Vingativa (takedown an oponent that is on base position, usually arriving from a round kick) Arrastão (tackle) Tesoura "scissor" (catching an opponent landing usually from a round kick & taking down using both Legs in a scissor position) Tesoura de frente (front scissor) Tesoura de costa (back scissor) Queda (counter attack from usually a front kick...grabbing one leg and sweeping the other, taking the oponent down) Montada (mount position) Raspagem (inverting the mount position using both legs) Guarda (guard position on the floor) Triângulo (triangle choke) Chave-de-braço(arm lock) etc... HAND STRIKES & TECHNICS: Galopante (open hand blow to the side of the head) Cotovelada (elbow strike) Asfixciante/escala (palm strikes, usually forward, like a jab) Dedo (finger strike to the eyes) Direto (hook) Gancho (upper cut) Cruzado (crossed hook) Mata-leão (choking the oponent using both arms hooked into the oponent's head) etc...
